StarGuard Law P.C. (“StarGuard Law,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is a professional law corporation providing intellectual property, technology, entertainment, and business law services, based in Burbank, California. We serve clients in California, Ontario, and Quebec.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, retain, and disclose personal information through our website at starguardlaw.com (the “Site”), our newsletter, and our client intake process.

This Policy does not apply to information exchanged within an established attorney-client relationship, which is governed by attorney-client privilege and professional confidentiality obligations under applicable Rules of Professional Conduct.

We do not collect sensitive personal information such as government ID numbers, financial account details, health data, or biometric data through this Site.

Quebec residents: Google Analytics does not activate until you provide explicit consent through our cookie preference tool.

5.2 Email Marketing

A third-party email marketing platform manages newsletter subscriptions and sends communications. Subscriptions require double opt-in confirmation. This provider does not sell or share subscriber data.

5.3 Client Intake and CRM

A client relationship management platform processes intake form submissions for conflict-of-interest checks and client file management. Used exclusively for client relationship purposes.

5.4 Website Hosting — Vercel Inc.

Our hosting provider processes server logs and stores our cookie consent audit log. It does not have access to personal information beyond what is required to operate the infrastructure.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.

6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

6.1 What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit our Site. They allow us to recognize your device and remember your preferences on return visits.

Essential Cookies — Always active. Cannot be disabled.
Required for the Site to function. Three small cookies are set in this category and contain no personal identifiers:

We will respond within 30 days of receiving your request. If additional time is required, we will notify you before the deadline expires.

Authorized agents: You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf by providing written authorization. We may require direct verification of your identity before proceeding.

We may verify your identity before processing any request to protect your information from unauthorized disclosure.

11. Data Security

We implement administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including:

  • HTTPS encryption on all pages
  • Access controls limiting who within our organization can access personal information
  • Contractual data protection obligations on all third-party service providers

No internet transmission is completely secure. While we take reasonable precautions, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Breach Notification: In the event of a breach creating a risk of harm to individuals, we will notify affected individuals and the relevant regulatory authority — the California Privacy Protection Agency, the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec, and/or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada — as required by applicable law.

12. Attorney-Client Privilege

This Policy governs personal information collected through our website, newsletter, and intake processes. It does not govern information exchanged within an established attorney-client relationship, which is protected by privilege and professional confidentiality obligations under applicable Rules of Professional Conduct.

Unsolicited inquiries: Submitting a contact form does not create an attorney-client relationship. Please do not include sensitive or confidential information in an unsolicited inquiry.

13. Additional Disclosures

13.1 Law Enforcement and Legal Process

We may disclose personal information when required by law, court order, subpoena, or other legal process, or when we have a good-faith belief that disclosure is necessary to protect any person’s safety or to prevent fraud.

13.2 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your personal information may transfer to a successor entity. We will notify you if your information becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.

13.3 External Links

Our Site may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing personal information.

13.4 Children’s Privacy

Our Site is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.

13.5 Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We do not currently respond to Do Not Track browser signals. Because we do not sell or share your personal information, we are not required to honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals under applicable California law.

14. Changes to This Policy

We review this Policy at least annually and update it when our practices change or applicable law requires. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.

If we make material changes, we will post a notice on our Site. Where applicable law requires your consent to a material change, we will ask for it before the change takes effect.
